The Best of Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipes

Cindi Porter
My Spaghetti Sauce is simple but flavorful and not spicy hot either. I hope you give it a try ;) Here goes:1 lb. pork sausage in small chunks (sort of mini meatballs or you can crumble it for meat sauce for little kids)

Cook sausage until ...brown, then add 1 diced onion and continue cooking sausage until dark brown. Some might say it’s burnt but it isn’t and onion is translucent.

Add a number 2 can of tomato sauce (it’s about 32 oz.)

crush and mix together 2 TBSP. Oregano leaves, 1 TBSP. Thyme leaves, 1 tsp. Basil leaves, ¼ tsp. black pepper, 3TBSP. Brown sugar, ¼ tsp. Chili powder, ½ tsp. garlic powder NOT garlic salt!! (If fresh garlic I use about 4 or 5 cloves and add fresh garlic with onion and sausage)

Return to stove, cover pot and simmer for 30 minutes or so, stirring occasionally. If not thick enough for you add ½ a small can of tomato paste stirring constantly until thick. It only takes a couple of minutes to get thick quick.

my Spaghetti recipe is pretty boring, but we like it.
1 can tomato sauce
salt
pepper
garlic powder
...
onion powder
oregano, just a dash
I don't measure any of it so its just how I think it looks on the tomato sauce. With the garlic and onion I'm generous

Yes I actually life a frugal life pt 2

Yes I actually live a "frugal" life

I have had many a questions or statements in my adulthood life. Never once was saving money or buying things second hand in my choices as a teen. We all know in high school or growing up you had to have the best of the best or no one would like you, or you weren't popular.... Well thats how it was when I was in high school, if you didnt meet the criteria of popularity you didnt fit in unless you had the expensive.....everything.... frugal wasn't even a word that existed to any of us teenagers.

Well that was a marriage, two kids and bills up the creek ago and I love living a frugal life. My husband sometimes asks me " Aren't you afraid of someone calling you cheap skate"? Umm thats a BIG FAT NO!!!! Because of being frugal and couponing and buying second hand household items we are blessed enough to go on yearly family vacations every September on ONE income. We have the same bills and obligations as many others. He have Rent, Car payments..bills and even child support that my husband has to pay.

But we manage, we even manage to bless others with our stockpile when needed. Here I am giving a little clip around my kitchen to show just how frugal I really am. Everything in my kitchen, was purchased at a discount store, or was a BLACK FRIDAY buy or a yardsale or someone was wonderful enough to make it for me so which means I didnt pay full price for ANYTHING!!!

Seriously from my microwave down to the dining room table and all the little things in between all my decor was either made for me or by me or were gifts to me. Real life is about enjoyment, so why not cheerfully live less?!

God is Good all the time!!

Potatoe Leek Soup..... by Margaret Peterson

Potatoe Leek Soup:
Ingredients:
3 cups sliced leeks, white and tender green parts (trim off the darker green tips)
3 cups peeled and roughly chopped baking potatoes, like russets
... 6 cups water
11/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup creme fraiche or sour cream
1/3 cup minced chives or parsley
2 or 3 pieces of cooked bacon.
Directions
In a large heavy saucepan, bring the leeks, potatoes, water, and salt to the boil over high heat. Cover partially, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until all vegetables are tender.
Season to taste, and puree with a handheld blender, or in batches in a food processor. I actually like some chunks of potatoe in the soup still so I use a potatoe masher sometimes.
Turn in the cream and reheat before serving.
Top each serving with a dollop of creme fraiche and sprinkling of fresh chives and bits of the cooked bacon

Beef Stew by Amber Richards

Mushroom Soup by Lesley Talley

Goulash by Stormo Clonts

Goulash - Quick and Easy! (This is an easy recipe to add and subtract ingredients)

2 pounds hamburger meat (Add more or less depending on what you like)
Macaroni noodles OR cube a few potatoes
A couple cans of tomato sauce
... Can tomato chunks
Green beans
Corn
Seasonings you like (I just use salt and pepper)

Brown your meat. I sometimes boil it in water. Always drain it. Unless you want the grease and stuff in your goulash.

In a big pot add your cooked hamburger meat, tomato sauces, tomatoes, green beans, corn, and seasonings. Cover with lots of water. Enough to almost fill the pot!

If your doing potatoes you can add them as well. Cook till the potatoes are to your liking. Then enjoy! :)

OR

If your doing macaroni noodles, bring the pot to a boil then add the noodles and follow directions to cook them or till you like them!

I'm sure you can use rice if you don't like potatoes or noodles. Haven't tried that way though!

Tomatoe Parmesan Soup By Sara Bigler

‎2 (14 oz) cans diced tomatoes, with juice
1 cup finely diced celery
1 cup finely diced carrots
1 cup finely diced onions
1 tsp dried oregano or 1 T fresh oregano
... 1 T dried basil or 1/4 cup fresh basil
4 cups chicken broth
½ bay leaf
½ cup flour
1 cup Parmesan cheese
½ cup butter
2 cups half and half, warmed (I would go with only a cup and a half though)
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

. Add tomatoes, celery, carrots, chicken broth, onions, oregano, basil, and bay leaf to a large slow cooker.

2. Cover and cook on LOW for 5-7 hours, until flavors are blended and vegetables are soft.

3. About 30 minutes before serving prepare a roux. Melt butter over low heat in a skillet and add flour. Stir constantly with a whisk for 5-7 minutes. Slowly stir in 1 cup hot soup. Add another 3 cups and stir until smooth. Add all back the slow cooker. Stir and add the Parmesan cheese, warmed half and half, salt and pepper. Add additional basil and oregano if needed (the slow cooker does a number on spices and they get bland over time, so don't be afraid to always season to taste at the end).

Original Recipe Yield 8 - half pint jars
... Ingredients

4 cups crushed strawberries
1 cup minced jalapeno peppers
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 (2 ounce) package powdered fruit pectin
7 cups white sugar
8 half pint canning jars with lids and rings
Directions

Place the crushed strawberries, minced jalapeno pepper, lemon juice, and pectin into a large saucepan, and bring to a boil over high heat. Once simmering, stir in the sugar until dissolved, return to a boil, and cook for 1 minute.
Sterilize the jars and lids in boiling water for at least 5 minutes. Pack the jam into the hot, sterilized jars, filling the jars to within 1/4 inch of the top. Run a knife or a thin spatula around the insides of the jars after they have been filled to remove any air bubbles. Wipe the rims of the jars with a moist paper towel to remove any food residue. Top with lids, and screw on rings.
Place a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill halfway with water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then carefully lower the jars into the pot using a holder. Leave a 2 inch space between the jars. Pour in more boiling water if necessary until the water level is at least 1 inch above the tops of the jars. Bring the water to a full boil, cover the pot, and process for 10 minutes.
Remove the jars from the stockpot and place onto a cloth-covered or wood surface, several inches apart. Allow to cool overnight Once cool, press the top of each lid with a finger, ensuring that the seal is tight (lid does not move up or down at all). Store in a cool, dark area.
